United States Postal Service Pony Express (TM) Train Set
$34.95
Pony Express Train Set. After the introduction of the Pony Express, mail from the east began to accumulate in St. Joseph. In response, Postmaster General Montgomery Blair called for the establishment of the nation's first Railway Post Office (RPO) on the Hannibal & St. Joesph Railroad, so mail could be sorted as it traveled across the Midwest. The first RPO car, "US Mail No. 1" contained a simple letter case for sorting mail, small windows and oversize doors that allowed for easy access. This replica of that first RPO train is proudly handcrafted in America from solid birch hardwoods. Its rugged construction and compatibility with other wooden railroad toys promise endless hours of reliving the days of the Pony Express and the early West. U.S. Mail No. 1 will become a family heirloom to be enjoyed by generations of young railroaders.
